The Train from LA to Santa Barbara

Having recently moved from the East to the West Coast, I don’t have as much occasion to take the train as I used to, something I missed more than I thought I would. There is after all something transfixing about a landscape out the window of a train, passing by more like on great panorama painting than a movie.

But I had the opportunity to take the train from Los Angeles to Santa Barbara recently and while I planned on getting a great deal of reading done, I hardly got through a page, unable as I was to look away as we passed through downtown into the mountains above Semi Valley then back down fertile fields of Oxnard and onto a gray ocean beneath an overcast sky. The best I could do was snap a few photos.
